Singapore, May 1. Penang and Singapore papers continue to puslish letters on the distressing conditions on the Marama, largely owing to the inadequate sanitary conditions, particularly regarding children.
The Flaniers Association has cabled to the Rubber Growers' Association in London to institute an enquiry into the Marama allegations. Many letters were read at the meeting criticising severely the conditions. The Government publishes the Captain's report from Colombo admitting the shortage of water and starf, but denying the allegations of insanitation, and accusing the more wealthy" of being responsible for the grumbling. He admits there have been several deputations of complaint, stating that one withdrew the charges and apologised:
