DE VALERA'S ESCAPE
FROM PRISON.
SINN FEINER'S REMARK-
Paris.
ABLE TALE.
February
28.-Mr.
Kelly, the Sinn Fein delegate, now in Paris, relates the follow ing tale regarding the escape of De Valera from Lingh Frison:-
After the midnight arrest GE De Valera near his home si twelve Graystone, he, with
comrades, was sent to Lincoln Prison, other Sian Feiners being distributed in order 1 avoid
concentration in one jail.
On account of Da Valera's in portance, the stricte-t watch was
maintained upon him in prison.i No friend or Plative was allowed to see him or his comrades, and they were permitted to write and receive weekly only three letters each. The most stringent censor- ship was maintained over thelr correspondence, and both ing - Ing and outgoing letters hai to pass through Letdon for inspec 11.3. It can be seen, therefore, that it must have been most difficult to get into egmmunication with De Valera with a view to his →caping.
After the general elections were Dver a meeting of the Republican members of the "Irish Parliament" was held cal January 7th and another a week | later, at which the matter of the Irish prisoners was discussed, A }
epumittee was apredated & take charge of the question of the rele.is of their incarcerate i Cunrades, and the first result i the o emitted's activity was the e-cape of De Valera.
