CONCESSIONS TO HUNGARY...

Vienna, April 6. Negotiations between the Bonth and the Hungarian Government are reported to the progressing favourably. It is stated that the questions being discussed are mainly territorial concerning reasonable concessions to Hungary.

PEACE PROGRESS.

OENERAL PRINCIPLES AGREED UPON.

Paris, April

Commissions of British, French and American Experts have been appointed by the Council of Four for drafting settlements of which the general principles have been agreed apon. One Commission is drafting the settlement regarding the economic exploitation of the Sarre tasin by France and the military neutralisation of Rhenish territories. A second Commission, including Mr. E. 5. Montagu for Britain, is undertaking the same duties in regard to reparation. The Council of Four will resume discussion on both matters of the basis of the reports of the Commissions.

LATEST EXPECTATIONS.

It is responsibly stated that the Council of Four has practically agreed on all outstanding questions except the problem of personal responsibility for breaches of the laws of war. It is expected the Germans will appear at Yer- sailles in three weeks.

Interviewed by the "Matin," Mr. Lloyd George declared that he agreed with the recent prophecy of M. Pichon that the preliminaries of peace would be ready by Easter. At the end of April or in the beginning of May the Allies would be able to invite the German delegates to come and sign.

POSITION OF GERMAN MISSIONARIES.

In the House of Commons, replying to Colonel Burne, Mr. Amery said that inquiries instituted in January last pear showed that 138 German missionaries, of whom 85 were Alsace Lorrainers and one a Pole, had been permitted to remain in the colonies and protectorates. He had no exact total for the self-governing dominions. The responsibility for the expulsion and internment of German missionaries from these territories rested primarily with the various overseas governments who possessed and might be relied apon to apply the necessary legislation, in the case of

undesirables.

A communique states that General Allenby is glad to see that the disturbances, outrages and destruction of pro- perty has largely subsided. He reiterates hie promise to enquire impartially into all grievances and urges all res- possible and patriotic Egyptians to state the steps that are "necessary to restore tranquillity and content. On the 1st April-General Allenby issued a proclamation stating that as it has been impossible to pass the budget he orders the extimates of budgetary receipts and expenditure for 1919-20 3 to be fixed at 28,850,000 Egyptian-pounds each and authorises
