THE TIN MARKET.

CONDITIONS IN HONGKONG.

During the past few weeks the tin market has caused a fair jamount of anxious thought on the part of dealers, many of whom have been badly hit by really alarming Jactuations. There has been a growing desire for information by merchants dealing

in this commodity. Realising this the Telegraph elecited the follow- ing from one of the leading tiu merchants in lengkung:-

The estimated stock of tin in Hongkong at present is about 3,000 tons, consisting of 2,500 | tons of Yunnan tin and about 3011 tons of Java tiu. The total quality of tin exported from

110,000 tons approximately, the greater portion of which went to America.

The tin aurket in Hongkong underwent wide fluctuations dur- ing last year and business was very brisk for the first five or six mouths. When the year began, the local price for No. 1 tin was Mex. $103-8101 per pical, and it reached its highest, ie. Mex. #132 per pieul, in the middle of May. This great advance in price was principally due to the requisitioning of Dutch steamers and the consequent stoppage of exportations t Java tin to America.
