2. In order to ascertain what practice prevails at Jamaica, where there is a commodore, and also a naval Commander in Chief; my Lords have communicated with Captain Courtenay who recently occupied the former post, and a copy of his reply is inclosed, from which it appears that the invariable precedence assigned to him was after the Chief Justice.
While my Lords quite concur with Lord Kimberley in deeming it inexpedient to disturb the general existing regulations on this subject, they would suggest for Lordship's consideration, whether the practice existing in Jamaica might not be followed at Hong Kong, observing that, in the Regulations concerning precedence, no mention is made of Commodores.
