ARMY EDUCATION.

Details of the educational training system in the Army were inaus in pamphlet form recently the scheme approved last September having been greatly extended. As much tima] as can be made available from! the necessities of military servica is now to be devoted to the training. In order to stimulatej the supply of instructors and to prepare officers and non-conmis- sioned officers with reference to the special needs of the scheme, two Schools of Education have been authorised - one Trinity and Hertford Colleges, Oxford, and the other at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. At] [these schoola intensive comses) extending over one month will be hell. The object of the two schools is different: that at Oxford is intended to provide in-{ struction in the methods and art of teaching older men, and is designed for officers. The object of the school at Cambridge to provide by means of similar courses instruction for officers and non-commissioned cfficers responsible for the instruction of Category A (IV.) soldiers.

The prisoners, James Swenson and Anton Frank Cabs, appealed for mercy, before Jus tices Darling, Avory, and Salter, against a sentence of seven years' penal servitude passed by Mr+. Justice Coleridge, They had been found guilty of breaking into a shop, stealing the goods, and also with knocking a man! seaseless and robbing him of all Lis money. The opinion was expressed by Mr, Jus- tice Avory that so long a sentence as seven years would not have) been passed by Mr. Justice Coleridge had he not taken the view that he ought not, under the circumstances, to order a flogging. But the present Court took a different view. Seven years was a long sentence for a first! offence. But owing to the brutal character of the assault, and as a ' warning to all soldiers and others who were in this country, the Court directed that both prisoners Įmust be flogged, and also go to prison for twelve months with hard labour.

thin gold chain about twelve inches in length. He was seen, it is said, to wrench the property off the neck of an infant who was in the arms of its father. On being arrested, chain his possession and it presumed that he had thrown it away. He was, however, made over to Inspector Shillong, of the Hastings Police for enquiry. The use of the radio-telephone for two-way conversation between person using the laud-line tele- hone and aviation oficials was demonstrated for the first time on Jan. 16. Major Kenly, director of U. The radio-telephone for one-way conversation and giving orders has been used by the US. Army i and Navy for more than a year. The demonstration, noted was over a land-line telephone from the capital to Bolling Field, where the radio system is in- stalled connecting with the aviator by radio. Officials said that with the use of the land-line it will be a mere detail for the person in the office at Washing- ton to talk with an aviator flying over San Francisco..
