Chief Secretary's Office,

Valletta - 23. March 1870.

Ser

I am directed by His Excellency the Governor, to state for the information of the Vice Admiral, Commander in Chief, that a distressed British subject named Thomas Clary, has arrived in this Island from Bona, and is now receiving one shilling a day from the Island revenues, for subsistence. And I have to request that the Vice Admiral will be good enough to grant a free passage, if enabled to do so, to this individual, for England, by an early opportunity, by Troop or H.M. Ships, to prevent his becoming a burden on the Malta government.

I have &c

(Signed) Victor Houlton

Chief Secretary to Government.
