1917, to the end of October 1918, 52 vessels of a total registered tonnage of 17,450 were built, the capacity of individual craft vary- ing from 37 to 304 tons. Twelve more vessels of an approximate tonnage of 1690 have been launch- ed, while 11 more of a total ap-| proximate tonnage of 1715 are under construction. The last includes one of 500 tons which is the largest ship ever built in Bombay. The timber for the ships had so brought from Malabar and it Was not necessary for the State to make any con- cession to builders.
