Shipping Profits.

The reparts of shipping com.. panies for the past year or so have not on the whole shown the enormous-profits reaped in the earlier part of the war. Nearly all feets are now running on Blue Book rates, and these, though not long ago revised, do not give that large margin of remuneration which so tickled the imagination and weigh ed down the pockets of shipping investors in the 1916 and 1917 seasons in spite of handicap of the excess profits duty. Even now, however, shipping, undertak ings manage to do very well and to squeeze a comforable return out of the hard rations on which they claim to be living. Condit ions, too, still permit of fuelnati ions, in earnings which are not always of an unfavourable character, as is shown by the reports of several shipping companies recently issued. *
