London, October 20. Beuter learns that to-day's British attack resulted in the recapture of Salesmes and a mile advance eastwards of the River Bells on a front of ten milek. --
Avaluable advance has to-day been made in Belgiam. The line resting on the Datah frontier runs straight down to Aelter. thence to Lootenbolle, Vynckt, Grammene and Ocsselghem to the Lys Caual north of Orghem.

London, October 20. Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig reporta:In this morning's sttack the British forced a passage of the Balle River between Ls Catena and Densin. Having captured villages in the tirer valley and driven the enemy from Soleemes, we fought up the slopes east ward of the Belle and established ourselves on high ground over looking Harpies Valley.
We encountered determined opposition, especially at Solermet and St. Python but we averesme this opposition, after hard fighting, and repulsed a number of bounter-attacke.
This operation was carried out in heavy rain. We took prisoner 2,000 and osptured some guns.
Our advanced troops are within two milee of Tournai and are gaining sontact with the enemy eastward of the general line Densin, Born des Eslusettes, Lsada, Mouchin sod Marquain.

A French communique states:-During the day and evening yesterday, the enemy made two violent counter-attacks between the Serre and the Aisne, one in the region of Veneuil and the other north of St. Germain Mont. We repulsed them and took prisoners. The enemy at night-time vigorously reacted with artillery and machine guns at different points of the front.

- London, Ost, 20. A Belgian, communique says: British Belgian and Erpach armies commanded by King Albert to-day developed the results of the last six days. The Belgians vocupied Zee- brugge and Heyst and stormed Bruges. Elsewhere the Belgians crossed the Bruges-Ghent canal. Their left reached. the Dutch frontier and their right Aeltre, which is half way between Brages and Ghent. The French carried Thiealt and the adjoining high ground despite stubborn resistance by the enemy who endeavoured to bar the way to Lyx,

Field Marbai Sir Douglas Haig reports: British and American forces this morning, operating in conjuction with the French between the Oise and Lecatean, mccessfully renewed the advance. Wo reached the west bank of the Sambre and the Oize canal northward of Oisy and took pos session of the high ground westward of Catilion. In the operations of the past three days in this sector General Rawlinson's Fourth Army has completed an advance of from five to eight miles scross difficult country which the enemy defended with tenacity. Having driven the saemy on the first day of their attack from strong positions on the. right bank of the Selle river by determined and persistent. fighting they successfully cleared the whole of the high ground eastward of the river line, capturing many villages. in the course of their advance with over five thousand pris oners and a number of guns. The enemy has commenced to withdraw northward of the Cambrai-Bavai road. "We have occupied Szalzoir, and made progress towards Densin from the south Northwards of the Sensee canal we have already "entered Densin and reached Escanden and Somain. On our left the Eighth Division has taken Marchiennes and during the past ten days, in the course of their advance of over eighteen miles, they have prisonered several hundred. Fur ther northwards we steadily continue our advance and have reached the general line of Orchies, Combrieux, Bourghelles, Templeuve to south-eastward of Roubaix and Nechin. In aviation we shot down three hostile machines, two were driven down uncontrollable and two British are missing Our might-fliers, despite the mist, dropped three and a half tons of bombs on railways and lines of communication. London, Oct. 20. A French communique says: The enemy on the Oise frant has been completely thrown back east of the river. The right wing of the First Army is continuing its pursuit between the Oise and Lafere and has captured Ribeiront and Villerslesec. The Tenth Army on the Serre front at tacked Hunding Stellang, between Pouilly and Soissonne marshes, and pierced this powerful fortification on a front of five kilometres, shattering stubborn resistance, advanc ing twelve hundred metres and taking a thousand prisoners. Enemy counter-attacks west of Barenton brook were re- pulsed with heavy loss. Fighting was equally severe be- tween Sissonne and Chateau Porcien. We made important progress by local attacks, reaching the Sissonne-La Salre road and capturing several fortiñed works.
West of Chateau Porcier we also attacked Hunding Stellung and captured the ridge north of German Mont, taking seven hundred prisoners. The battle in the Voziers region continued all day. It was most desperate on the hills east of the Aisne. We captured, Taequart farm" and Hill 193 and, east of Vandy, captured and passed far beyond the village of Chetres taking four hundred prisoners and ten guns. Numerous air fights took place between the Aisne and Argonne where German air-craft have been con- centrated. Thirteen enemy machines were felled...

Americans co-operating with the British north of Wassigny have reached the Sambre-Oise canal, Seventeen enemy aeroplanes were shot down in twenty-five combats yesterday.

Aviator's Explanation of the Accident While Flying Over Brighton.
#acoidental death” wse the verdict returned at the inquest ut Brighton recently on Cleorge Ralph Binden, who was killed by sandbags from sn seroplane which looped the loop over Brighton on July 8.
The difficulty in finding the aviator, for whose attenduare the inquest had been adjourned, wan explained by the fast that, at the time of the anoident he was flying to France, and did not hear of the occurrence until he returned.
