"The 'Courier' of the 26th Ultimo contains the following statement, which

is of some interest to the Authorities here: This evening, about 8 o'clock, sixteen Canton men were

seen

being

paraded along the Public Road in charge of the Police. They consisted of old offenders, thieves and vagabonds.

Some

of

them have been locked up

for periods of

one and five

years.
