In the House of Commons Mr. Percy Harris auggested that in low of the arrival of such large reinforcements from Amica, British youths should not be sent to France until they are nineteen. He asked what was the age where- at Americans were called up and whether the French 1920 class was yes in the trenches. Mr. MacPherson regretted that circumstances at present did not admit of the adoption. of the suggestion and declined to undertake that youtha ander nineteen would not be sent to the front line. He un- derstood no Frenchmen of the 1920 clase Ead yet been put into the trenches. The minimum age of American recruits was twents one.
FIGHTING IN PALESTINE.

A Palestuve official message states: Enemy attack» developed on July 13th and 14th against positions covering the passages of the Jordan and on Abutellal ridges, north- ward of Jericho. Indian cavalry dispersed the enerry east- ward of the Jordan, larging a number and taking prisoners and machine-guns. The enemy penetrated positions about Abatellol, but the Australians and New Zealanders, coun- ter-attacking entirely restored the position, prisotering four hundred. The Lotal number of prisoners is 510. of whom 330 are Germang,
GERMANY AND BELGIUM.
Amsterdam, July 16,
An additional telegram, regarding Count Hertling's re- ferences to Belgium shows that the Chancellor said that the invasion and occupation of Belgium were necessities forced on Germany. Belgium would be held as a pledge in order to obtain peace conditions preventing her becoming the jumping-off ground for the enemy, not only militarily but economically, Germany must prevent herself being strangled economically after the war. The Chancellor insidiously proceeded to attempt to influence Belgian opinion towards Germany.
