Two Kinds of Germans. There were two totally different Kinds of people in Germany-the Boandinavians, or long-headed people, and the Blav, or the peo- ple who belonged to Central and South Germany-asid Professor Keith at the Royal Institation recently. All the great men Gar many had produced belonged to the latter kind.
Converted Conscience Man.
A letter was read at Birming ham Tribunal from a teacher who, i as a conscientions objector, was granted exemptica in November 1915 on condition that be went to Holland sad workad for the War Victims' Relief Committee. From what he had seen, he wrote, be had changed his views, and was returning to England to enlist. The man ister appeared before the tribunal, and was warmly congratulated on his decision.
Lucky Crossing Sweeper. To enable him to takɛ a holiday every year, Miss Harriet A. Morti more, of Lexham gardens, W.. bequeathed £300 to Arthur
Lynch, a one-legged crossing- sweeper, of Harlesdan, the money to be invested in an sanaity. This is the second bequest to a crossing aweeper in a week. Miss Marti- more, who left #44,830, also bequeathed £1,000 to her butler, £2000 for anti-vivisection work, and £20 for the maintenanOS Of her pet dogs and oats.
£40,000 Bequest to Churches. Besides several specific be! quests for religious and sharitable purposes, ranging from £5,000 downwards, Mr. A. C. Bowdler, masafastaring chemist, of Black- barn, left £40,000 to the Lau- cashire Congregational Union. This is to form a fand for assist- ing the poorer churches and their ministers. The rest of his estate af £158,784, after providing for varians bequests, will eventually go to the Congregational Union of England and Wales for the *same purpose.
Coloured Water as Whisky," Complaints have been received by the police from all parts of London about the sale of coloured water as whisky.
