In view of the advance in the price of rios in Japan proper, there have large balling opera. tione on the Rice Exchange at Chemulpo. The sathorities at Kobe have instructed the manage- ment of the Exchange to prevent cornering operations designed to send up the price of rice. These instractions have been duly trene-Hatton mitted to the brokers, whore operations will be suspended if they ignore the official warning against the practics. It is report. ed that three Japanese dealers st Chinnampo have been "operating on the Chemulpo Rice Exchange, while another three brokers have specially gone over from Tokyo to undertake balling" manipula- tions-Japan Chronicle.
