The Leviathan, formerly the German liner Vaterland, HOW used as a transport, made the voyage from New York to Franos and back to New York in eleven days.
Wooden Shipbuilding In Burma. Rangoon is making a déter- mined effort to revive wooden shipbuilding on a large scale; having regard to the inexhaustible supply of teak, There was launched recently at Duneadaw, Rangoon a sea-going two masted briz, length 90 feet, 21 feet wide, depth 12 feet, 230 tons, drawing: 10 feet when loaded. She was build by Munshi Aziz Suban and Co, one of whose members comes from a Chittagong shipbuilding family. The brig is intended for cargo trade between Burms and India. Two large three-masted barques are approaching com- pletion at Raagoon. The builders are an Indian Christian timber firm.

Conference.
It is reported that the Nippon Fusen Kaishs and the Oesks Shosen Ka'abs will organise a conference on the Australian line. At present the Osaka Shosen Kaisha is maintaining a regular monthly service between Japan and Australia, while the Nippon Yusen Kaisha is opera- ting three regii ar lines and six extra steamers. On the est- ablishment of the proposed con ference the Osaka Shosen Kaisha will not be able to dispatch any extra steamers except by BRIBO- ment with the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, while it will be subject to the consent of the Osaka Shosen for the Nippon Yusen

It is slated that more than G.31,000,000 will be spent at once in building the steel plant, and it is expected that boilers and machinery, will also be turned out by this company. Vancouver is now on the biggest wave of prosperity in its history; there are no vacant stores or houses, and hundreds of homes will have to be built for the army of workmen, necessary to operate the big industries locating there. It is predicted, conservatively, that the popul ation of Vancouver will jung to 25,003 within two years.
