Treatment of Shipowners.
At a recent meeting of the Council of the Hull Chamber of Shipping a resolution was on the agenda:"That this Chamber, the majority of whore members are not shipowners, protests against the u fair and one vided treatment of British shipowners by the Government." The Shipp- ing Ommittee stated that concrete cases now showed that shipowners were not only unable to make resaves for the purchase of new tonnage, but were suffer- ing beavy losses at this present rates of freight and war insurance. Owing to the enormous profits earned by neutral shipownGM, which were being applied to the reorganisation and increase) ofer their own mercantile marine, British shipowners were new faced with the difficult problem of meeting the competition of other nations for the world's trade after the war.
