A Naval Architect The death took place recently, at the age of 71, of Mr. Alexander Adamson, naval architect. Mr. Adamson served, his apprentice- ship with MessrRand81b. Elder and Co. (later the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, GovED), andultimately became snaval architect; tothe firm. Afterwards he was shipyard manager successively to Palmers' Company, Jarrow; Armstrong, Mitchell and Co., Elswick; and the Naval Construction, Works Barrow (of which he was later managing director). He was member ofcouncil of the Institution of Naval Architects and a member of Lloyd's Register Technical Committee. When at Fairfield he designed, amongst other vessels, the Arizona, Alaska; Umbria, and Etruria.
