I was beaten and kicked out of my cell by the Jailers who were put in charge of me. I remonstrated against the bad treatment, but the more I complained to the Governor, the more severe the treatment became.

The men who beat me were always drunk, either with Opium or alcohol. I was kept locked up in a dark room, without any furniture, all the time. I was chained to the stanchion from morning till evening by my Keeper and sometimes would not be loosened to go to the water closet.

I was taken on board the "Acantha" on the night of the 16th ultimo (July) when it left this port. Coming down
