At the time he wse on his way to Bombay sa Inspector of Mechanical Transport Vehicles. When the liner was torpedoed, he was swept off the decks and sucked down by the sinking ship. He inse- quently managed to get into a other pas boat with two

Obituary.
Kobe, January 9.-Mr. Arthur Hesketh Groom died here this morning. Mr. Groom, who was! 72 years of age, arrived in Kobe in April, 1888. Until recently he was Chairman of the Directora af the Oriental Hotel Co.-N. 0. Daily News.
