SHIPPING NEWS.

Shipplag Investment Trust.

Sir Owen Philipps, M.P presided recently at the annua general meeting of the Londo Maritime Investment Company He said the net profits for the year ended Sept. 30 last were £26,914, compared with £1,944 for the previous year, to which must be added the balance of £2,250 brought forward from fast year, making the total available to be dealt with £28,465. After providing for the dividend upon the preference stook, and addir g £11,680 out of the revenue to the reserve fund, and in addition the credit balance on change of investments, £8,319. the directors recommended a dividend on the. ordinary stoot at the rate of 6 per cent. for the year, less income tax, the balance of £2.347 to be carried forward. Pursuing the policy of the board in building up a substantial reserve fund, as making for the welfare of the company, as well as in the best and permanent interests of the shareholders, the reserve fund had been increased during the period covered by the accounts to the substantial sum of £70,000. This reserve fund was kept dia tinot not from the ordinary invest- ments of the company, and con- sisted of£75,000 War Loan Stock. A valuation of the company's' investments as at Sept. 30 last showed that the capital and reserve fund were more than intact. Considering the times be thought the shareholders would consider the position as eminently satisfactory, and one which would compare well with most invest- ment companies in the city. The company had no debenture debt, and, in view of the strong financial position they could face the future with confidence. After a tribute to the inestimable service of the Royal Navy and the Mercantile Marine, he moved
