WINTER ON THE ITALIAN FRONT.
London, December 22. Beuter's correspondent at the Italian Headquarters sends
a thrilling description of the intense winter conditions the.. Italians are undergoing in the long outdrawn duel against the ever rising Bood of the enemy. The Austro-Germans "have zecumulated a tremendous number of cannon on the moun- tsins dominating the field of attack surrounding Grappa mountain and the valleys leading to the plain. It has been necessary to dynamite ärtillery trenches in consequence of the hardness of the frozen ground. The gunners have often been obliged to place cannon without shelter, while the nowy back-ground makes them an easy target. Field tele graphists and stretcher bearers face almost certain death in carrying out their duties. The infantry is obliged to lie down for hours on utterly exposed ground awaiting the moment of attack, while the snow in its melted form pene trates their bones. Notwithstanding the hardships the. spirit of the troops, notably the Alpini, is undaunted
In the Chamber the Minister of Munitions announced, that the Italians to-day reconquered Monte Asolone,
