Rescued Missionaries. Twelve American: mimionation and a dozen other foreigners, mostly women and children, who ware batieged by Chinese bandits at Tabul, a town about 160 miles northwest of Peking have been rescued by officers of the United Stales marine corps. Captain Calvin R. Matthew and Lieut- "enant Thomas M. Laby, of the marine corps, who are attrobed to the Pekin legation, left Kalgan, accompanied by a detachment of Chinese soldiers, to bring out the besieged missionaries. Word was received in Peking that the American officers and the mission- aries had arrived at Kalgan from Tabul. Kalgan is about half way between Paking and Tabul, a Cardinal Exiled from Lisbon. Anthony Hendes Bello, the patriarch of Lisbon, has been given five days by the Portuguese Go- vernment to leave the capital, A decree issued to-day forbids the Cardinal to reside in Lisbon or the imbarbs for one year. The state appro- priated all property belonging to churches and religions congregat. ions and announced that in the future, all obarabes must be msin- tained by the offerings of their membere.
