A complete survey of the lead Barometer resources of the country is also Temperaturə being carried out; new fources of Humany supply are being investigated and Wind Direction old workings re-opened. In one instance steps have been taken: to assist in the drainage and development of an important lead mine, from which there is a prospect of an immediate in- creased output. Action is also being taken with regard to the production of zinc. A sulphur pyrites mine has been acquired, and certain low-grade copper deposits of considerable extent and promise are being carefully watched with a view to giving assistance in their working. In the course of it immediate operations the department is gaining valuable information, which will allow it to offer future suggestions as to the prospect of Tes the normal base metal industry Wed of the United Kingdom.
