CONSIGNEES

IN PALESTINE,

Dashing Cavalry Work,

Allahabad, July 3.-The Pion- era-Cairo correspondent wrote on May 31: A very dashing right march by our mounted troops

| took place in South Palestine last week, and resulted in the mom- plete destruction of a large section of the Turkish Railway. Our advance into Palestine had forced the Tucke to abandon a part of he line they had hitherto bald, and they had

consequently dismantled the section of their [railway line between El-arishand Kasaama. They, however, held Go to and had considerably im proved the section of the railway between Bir-Saba (Bambeba) and El-Anga, which affered him's possibility of threatening, our 7ght flank by rapidly concentrat ing force in what is knowR BE the El-Augs ares. It was decided the nee of this section `must be taken away from the Turke; and so in the evening the 22nd inst, two columas of mounted troops left our lines, and proceed ed to prearranged points, which they reached early next morning. To the southern Colama (Im- perial Camel Corpe) was assigand the duty of destroying the line from EAnga northwards, while the northern Column (New Zea- land Mounted Rifles) had to do similar work southwards from Aslug. The two forces who has worked towards each other car ried out their work most thorough- ly. They atterly destroyed per- manent way for a length of 15 miles. Every bridge, including three of 24 spars each, and every calvart, 30 in number, were blown up and every rail, bolt, and sleeper was broken. Only a ebort section of the lite re- msina undamaged between the parta destroyed by each colamo, and this is isolated from the North by more than six miles of #recked tracks. These operations were covered by a force of cavalry and artillery which appeared before Bir Subs at daylight on the 23rd, and occupying a ridge some foar miles west of the town bombarded and destroyed a large railway bridge five miles to the aorthwest, thee isolating the town from railway connections with the north. The Tarke were completely taken by surprise, and offered practically no resistance, the small parties of armed railway personnel being quickly overpowered and killed or captured. The columus all, returned to their bwis without loss, baving covered a distance up to 70 miles in two night war. Allbroken, chafed and damagedcles, besides spending the day- packages are to be left in the light hours between in demolition Godowns where they will be work and reconnaissance.
