Army Promotions.
A recent Supplement to the London Gazette contained the Dames of 39 warrant and boo. commissioned officers who have been promoted to second lienten- ante for service in the field.
The Pig-tailed Warriors. General Chang Fan's pigtailed soldiers are for the time the masters of Peking. The Chinese papera report that they go about fally armed and terrorise every- body. Recently some of them visited a Japanese circos which is situated outside the city, and after occupying the best sesta refused to pay for them. The Japanese proprietor at

telephoned to the Japanees Consalate, which communicated with the Chinese police and gendarmerie. Some police officers were sent to the..circus, bat instead of turning the soldiere oat they paid for their seats, and moreover guaranteed payment for all seata taken by them, on all future cocasions.
