Building Activity.
Every effort is now being used to build new ships. Thus, a large programme is on the slips in the country, and extra shipping has been secured by arrangement with the Dominions and neutral states in Europe. Likewise, nagy arrangements have been entered into with regard to securing fur- ther mercantile tonnage from America and Japan. It is hoped that some 500,000 new tonnage will be secured by the standardis- ation of ships. Another interest- ig step will undoubtedly bring practical results, namely, the Government's sanctioning in regard to deck loads, according " to which some fresh 500,000 tons carrying capacity have been Settle.ad ed to our mercantile marine.
