Cam→ mell Laird and Co., Ltd, at their meeting last month, decided to recommend the payment of the following fidal dividends in 28 6d persaare, or 24 per cent, on rasprot of the year 1916 —namely,
the preference shares, and 78 nd per share, or 7 per cent., on the ordinary shares, both payable on April 23 next, less income tax. Ningshao S, N, Co.
The annual meeting of share- holders of the Ningshao &.N. Co. was held on May 13. The report and statement of accounts for the working of the past year showed very satisfactory suits, there being a net profit of over $229,000 available for appropriation. Dur-- ing the meeting, much heated discussion took place btween the shareholders and several directors on the latters entering, int, a contract to sell the s.s Yungshirg without th consent of the share- holders. However, this regrett- able affair had already been amicably settled by the cancell- ation of the contract. A dividerd of 7 per cent. per annum was declared after clearing off debts and providing depreciation, and a substantial balance at credit was carried to the next year's account.
