New Freight Service for T. K. K. Following the lead of the Nippon Yusen Faisha, the Toyo Kisen Kaisha has announced its decision of opening a direct fortnightly freight service be- tween San Francisco and Kobe, touching only at Yokohama. Four, cargo vessels. the Ninyò.. Maru, the Kawanto Maru, the Nichiyo Maru and Unkai Maru, each of about 3,500 tons gross, will be commissioned on the new line in order to lessen the freight congestion which has increased on the Pacific since the war. Cargo space on these four vessels will be offered only to merchants in Japan.
Hankow Shipping.
The total number and tonnage of vessels which entered and cleared at Hankow during the quarter ended in December 1916, was 8.084 vessels of 1,624,702 tous. which was an increase of 418 vessels but a decrease; of 110,486 tons from the same quarter in 1915. Of the total 816 vessels of 1,07812 tons were river steamers, showing a decrease of 19 vessels and 81,309 tons, and 175 vessels of 226 537 tone.. were ocean steamers showing a decrease of 33 vessels and 62,700 tons. The percentages of the different flags of the total were 38.8 British 32.2 Chinese, 25."1 Japanese, 1.9. American and 1.0 Norwegian.
