Suggestions.
A latter is published in the "Times" from Mr. H. R. Miller, in which two important sugges- tions are made. The first is that the wording of all charter-partiesTM should be immediately amended
·80 as to exclude the right of charterers to direct ships to German ports, wheress the existing standard document" specifically includes German ports. By so amending the wording the dispatch of vessels to German ports after the war could always only be made possible by special negotiation. The second main suggestion is that all shipowners of the Allied countries should undertake not to sead a single ship to a German port for at least a year after the Germany would thus be dependent mainly on such neutral tonnage as she could secure. When she is faced with such a definite compact the may hesitate to continue she suicidal policy of destroying tonnage.
wa
A German, Raider. The "Norddeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung"correspondent at Copen- hagen reports that the second. German auxiliary cruiser, the Puyme, is still continuing its... activity and has sunk a large number of vessels This boat, according to the account given, ran into the harbour of Ria de Janeiro recentl, and anchored by the side of the interned Ger- mar
vessels there, drawing supplies from them. It was finally held up by a Brazilian warship, batllowed to proceed, and where it is now the Germansg themselves pretend not to know. It seems that the Puyme was so well provided with arms and an munitionia Riode Janeiro that it has been able to provide captured vessels with guns and to turn them into raiders. Eleven English warships several French, and one Jr pacese are said to be in pursuit of the raider, but in ap'te of this "she has succee led in
sinking- 25 ships. The "Norddeutsche Allgemeine Zeit- ug" is careful to add that the Puyme has not yet sunk an American ship, and that he has refraine from sinking passenger ships-Exchange
Portuguese Shipping. Germany will by now have learned to ber cost how her aggression has been in many directions. in commerce and. trade, alessing in di-guise.” Thus, the Portugues's Gwe no ment have now been forced to establish
permanent and regular steamship service be tren Lisbon, the Azores and Maderis, and, likewise, betweed Lisbon, Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro, utilising eight German“ steamships interned in Porta- guese home waters at the out- brak of the war. By establishing this line an old plan has been brought to fulfilment, namely, t> establish a Portuzuese direct
: steamship line between the two Portuguese speaking countries Brazil and Portugal. This
