The deficit of $50,000 over year 1871 left the Col: Govt with a nominal Excess of $120,000, sundry assets over liabilities, on 1 January 1872: of this sum it appears that $26,000 (arrears of Land Revenue) has since been remitted: it also appears from these papers that in 1872 the expenditure was likely to exceed the vote, by $40,000, deducting from this the margin by which the Revenue was expected to exceed its estimated amount, ($6000 + 372-H & S 5750) $27,000, there remains $5,000 as the probable deficit over 1872, so that the Colony would start in 1873.
