The directors of the British American Tobacco Co. in Febru- ary, says & London exchange, issued a letter to the shareholders atating that they are unable to preceed with the proposal. to make a bonus distribution of one $5 Ordinary, share of. the Im-- perial Tobacco Company of Canada in rospect of every four Ordinary shares held. The directors approached the Trea- sury on the question of the dis- tribution and asked whether per mission would be granted, and a reply has been received saying that the distribution would not be permissible without the con sent of the Lords of the Treasury. and that they were not at the moment in a position to say whether the shares in question were likely to be required by them under the Defense of the Realm Securities Regulations, and they feared therefore that they would not be justified in
