The Riepenhusen Case. Says "Truth" rf March 9:- The Riepenhausen case is not the only illustration of the idiocy of the new ule of the Admiralty with regard to captains in the mercentile marine. A Swe'e named Lindquist came to North Shields in his youth, married an English- woman, and never returned to his native country. Their son, Captain Lindquist, was brought up as an Englishman, and is in every respect a typical Tynesider. He knows no Swedish relatives and no lansuage but English. All his life he has been in the employ of the same firm of British ship- owner. At the outbreak of war he brought his ship safely away

There has never been a shadow of suspicion against him, but he was automatically.deprived of his employment under the new rule which the Admiralty applies indiscriminately to merchant cap- tains whose fathers were aliens by birth and not naturalised when their sons were born. Idiocy is not too strong a word to use in ⚫thin connection. Consider how the rule works. It excludes the spn of a Swede, a Frenchman, or an American who married an On
Englishwoman and lived and died Sat., 21st Apr. åt 3 p.m. in this country but was not Sun., 22nd Apr. at 7 a.m. naturalised before the "son was Sat, 28th Apr. at 3 p.m. bom. On the other hand, it ac-
