Ormskirk (West Lanos) Rural Tribunal were engaged on Feb. 23in-bearing applications con cerning young farm handa. Mr. Pimbley,'s large farmer on the Trilunal, stated that the Lord Mayor of Liverpool had informed him he would find experienced Chinese labourers for farms if farmern would accept them.
Remarkable War Speech. Archdesoon Wakeford, of Lia- cola, delivering an address at Llangollen recently, in presenting the Archbishop's meninge con dected with the National Mission of Repentasoe and Hope, said we zeeded the great war to save wa from almost damnation, for there was great peril in the direction in which we were going. We had gone through more than two years of war, but if the war bad anded in the first eix months with sweeping victories on lead and sea for ourselves, by this time we should have become the rottenent zation the world had ever known. As God used the fales gods of Egypt to ecourge the people, so He was using the false geda Worshipped in this country. Three pears ago we worshipped. riches, and He made us spend £5,000,000 a day: Now He re... quired our fire-born for the trenches, and publicans them- Eelven acquiesced in the despotio lioeneing order for the welfare of the State.
Szechuen's Resources.
Bays the London and China Express-An interesting point developed oat of 'n paper read by Mr. E. O. Wilton, Q.M. G., before the Central Asian Society. It ie that of the question of routes by which the trade of the great and rich province of Szechuan may be reached and tapped. One set of views advocates the water roata -by the Yangisa as the cheapest and most fessible ; the other view is for opening by railway. Mr. Wilton, with a very extensive knowledge and study of the prob. lem plumpe entirely for the water route. The Chinese Maritime -'i Customs, we know, has engaged the services of Mr. Plant, who bas an unrivalled kadwledge of -the river, with the intention of improving the navigation at the formidable rapide. The province is of each great potentialities that it can well afford to sapport borh routes, though freight rates or travel fares are not likely to be cheap for a long time to come,
