The Fight at the Admiralty,
London, March 19.
Beuter's correspondent at Petfograd tells a graphic story of the fighting at the Admiralty, the last stronghold of the troops of the old regime. At the Brst sign of the revolutionary movement in the army General Khabaloff, com- manding at Petrograd, over-riding the opposition of the Naval mea, ordered a long force of all arms to occupy the Admiralty. Fourteen cannon and twelve machine guns. were posted at the main entrance. The revolutionaries be gan the siege on the following morning, and a duel with machine guns and rifles continued throughout the day and night. The superior number of the revolutionaries resulted in the gradual exhaustion of the defenders. The Minister of Marine was notified at daybreak that unless the Admiralty capitulated within twenty minutes it would be razed by beary guns from the fortress of Peter and Paul across the Neva, manned by guardsmen, General Khabaloff was per- suaded to withdraw his troops, owing to representations that much invaluable apparatus might be destroyed.
General Khabaloff ordered the cease fire and the gar- risus surrendered. General Khaladoff and his Staff were arrested. After the evacuation the mob started pillaging. M. Rodzianko sent a guard at the Admiral's request. Tho gates and doors were placanded Protected by the Dams."
Steps were taken to protect the Royal Palace at Tears. koe Selo when news of the revolution was received. Machine guns and armoured cars were concentrated. The guards joined the revolutionary Huldiers in due course, but a few officers and soldiers were still within the. Palace buildings. The Tsaritza asked these not to fire and then addressed the revolutionary officers maying "1 am now only & Sixtor of Mercy with my children."
