THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH
OF TO-DAY'S EVENTS AT HAPPY VALLEY.
Though the first two days of Boaglong' Race Week were favoured with fine weather, the climatio qonditions since hara” been all against quidgar sports, and till this morning it was an rpen qepation whether the Jocker

The course at Happy Valley was in a far different state to what it had been for the three. days' racing earlier in the week, and the going was decidedly |- basyy, fact which bad ita: Tect on the performanpes of the ponies. Although there has been no record-breaking in the matter of fimpa at this year's meeting, there have been quite some fair times recorded, but any hope of fait going it-day was abandoned, for ibe opaditions were all against the ponies. The sbsence of some of the best jockeye was also factor which contributed towards making the events open from a backer's point of view, and, as is usual on "Of Days," there were generally bigger dividends to be paid out from the pari-mutuel.
This year also witnessed a change in the number of races to be rua, for whilst there weren still eight events proper, two of Them were divided into two classed -the Tytam Handicap and the Hongkong Handicap paking ton races altogether. This was an exceptionally large "card" fo one afternoon, and the races in con quenos finished late. There were plenty of entries for the Tytam Handicap, in "A" Class there, being 25, and in "B" Class 18. Io the Hongking Handicap, the "A"Clam attracted 35 entries and the "B" Class 13. bat of thees entries s number had scratched.
Daring the afternoon, the band of the 741. Panjasols, under Bandmaster J. W. Christian, rendered sa admirably obosen programue of music.
