Marked by features, the 1917 Race Meeting promoted by the Hongkong Jockey Club opsand at Happy Valley this morning ander con- ditions which, in all respects, were ideal. Tuere are those who would have the Race Meetings cancelled while the war lasts, but, after weighing all considerations, the Jockey Clab Committee has wisely come to the conclusion that the pros more than counterbalance the cons These annual gatherings result in a large sum being voted to War Charities, and this year as additional source of help in this connection is secured by many members of the Jockey Club forfeiting their right to fres entry to the enclosure, the proceeds from the payment of these tickets being wholly devoted to war purposes.
