DEATH OF LORD CROMER.
London, January 30. The death is ameuneed of Earl Cromer.
Later El Cromer had been ill for some time, and had been unable latterly to preside over the Dardanelles Commission. He died of a stroke late last evening.
Earl Cromer was born in February 1541 and was the Bon of Mr. Henry Baring, M.P., and Cecilia Anne, the daughter of Vice Admiral William Wyndham He entered the Royal Artillery in 1858 being made Captain in 1870 and Major in 1876. He was A.D.C. to Sir Henry Stocks in the Ionian Islands in 1861 and private secretary to the Earl of Northbrook, Viceroy of India, from 1672 to 1976. He was the Commissioner on the Egyptian Public Debt in 1877-79 and Controller General in Egypt i the latter year. Among other capaclities he acted as Financial Member of the Coun- cil of the Governor General of India, Financial Assistant at the Conference in London on Egyptian Finance, Agent and Consul General in Egypt.
