Spanish Consul, and Senor Towe
Buno, for their conduct in regard to the duel which was fought by them outside the jurisdiction of the Colony but was arranged in Hongkong.
On the 24th instant the case came before the Acting Chief Justice and the Defendants having, through their Counsel, pleaded guilty to the offence of attempting to provoke each other to fight a duel, were fined $200 each.
I ... add that the Government did not press for a severe sentence having regard to the circumstances of the case, as it only seemed necessary that the law should be vindicated.
"The China Mail" 24 August 1872.
I enclose an account of the proceedings in connection with the local papers.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient humble servant,
Arthur Kennedy
Governor.
