Bizce our last report of the 15th December, the volume of business put through on the local market has been well maintained. Owing to the tightness of money there has been a good deal of selling for the Settlement, which takes place to-day, and prices have in consequence for most speculative stocks declined. Investment stocks have remained at their former level, but very little business is reported.
The Shanghai market after showing signs of improvement anddenly fall back again, but is now once more showing some life, and Istent advices indicate a better buying market, Shanghai Cottons have been done as low in Tia. 1154, but there are buyers at the close 61 Tla. 116. Shanghai Docks hire buyurs at Tis. 88.
Hongkong and Shanghai Banks remain without demand at $730, but could be obtained at a lower rate,
Insurance sharm still remain neglected. Bome sales of Uzione took place at $925, but there are mellers at the close at 8920, and Jom would be accepted. A small lot of North Chinas has been dono at Tia. 150.
Douglasen hare declined to $118, at which rate males took plaos for the Settlement, but at the close they are armer with buyers at $119. Deferred Indos after having been placed early in the week at $142, dropped enddenly to $138 for the Settlement, but there are again buyers at $1361. with no sharon cffering. The Preferred shares have been neglected at $48. Steamboats have collars at $204. Star Ferries after sales at $38 buys sellers at this rate.
China Sagara have declined to $126 from $132), and alose with buyers at the former rate. Malabons have again been placed at 8371. Kowloon Docks after sales at $131 dropped to $128 for the Settlement, and are now wanted at $128. Kowloon Wharves have been placed at $85 and $85). Shenghai Docks after walos at Tis, 90, have bayern at Tim, 873.
