Unfavourable views taken in India caused a bear posi tion on the London market, which, in view of the statis val position, is not without danger.

It is unchallengable that the condition of the market is sounder than at the time of the spectacular movements- in May. Since then the Chinese stook has been greatly reduced and America has been relieved of the then accumula Lions. The Indian currency figures show a declining tendency. Silver often does the unexpected; but the situation is such that further advances may be expected before the close of the year.

The death is announced of Rt. Hon. Charles Booth, [Et. Hon. Charles Booth P.C., F.RS., D.Sc. (hon.), D.C.L. (bon), LL.D., was a partner in Alfred Booth and Co., Liverpool, and Chairman of the Booth S. S. Co. He was Pre sident of the Royal Statistical Society (1802-04) and a member of the Tariff Commission (1904). He published several books on social economy.]

It is a question how the fiery temperament of Zimmer- mann will suit the Chancellor, Herr von Bethmann Hollweg.

THE ALLIED OFFENSIVE,

November 25, 1.15 a.m. General Sir Douglas Haig reports:-There has been hostile shelling in the neighbourhood of Les Boeulg and Beso- court. Our artillery dispersed infantry southward of Puisieux

Five enemy aeroplanes were destroyed and several were driven down damaged. Three of ours are missing.

A Paris communique reports that matters were quiet on the whole front. Two German seroplanes were felled:

The object was to deprive the Germans of their line of communications fifty kilometres behind their front, where intense activity had previously been noted by our recon- noitring airships.

The operation was entrusted to a British squadron of 16 machine, escorted by 12 chasers, seven of which were French. The squadron carried four tons of bombs and were favoured with splendid weather.

They reached a certain railwayline fall of trains and material which they bombed. Then they arrived, at a big railway station where were two tzains; one full of troops, the other full of material. Great excitement was observed.

An enemy squadron immediately attacked but were put to fight by the chasers who brought down one. Meanwhile the bombarders dropped. 80 bombs on the station and pre- cincta. A series of explosions was distinctly heard, while an fimmensa sheet of fiams sross above the ventral station building and smoke darkened the sky for a long time...

AMERICA AND MEXICO IN AGREEMENT,

Mexican-American Commission has signed protocol pro- viding for the withdrawal of the American troops from Mexico and the formation of a border patrol by the respe tive armies, each on its own side, within forty days of the ratification of the agreement.

Router's correspondent at New York reports that Mor- gans' announce that the Anglo-French Treasuries bare au- thorized the sale of a limited amount of short term bille payable in dollars, maturing in frota one to six months at a rate depending on the market at the time of issue, but prob- ably from 3 to 41 per cent.

The Russians' legendary courage never failed. The British until to-day had the thank- less work of a defensive front, but did not spare their efforta and fulfilled their role with honour. RUSSIA'S POLITICAL CHANGES.

Nvember 25, 7.40 a.m. Petrograd newspapers dwell on the failure of M. Stoermer's attempt to revive bureaucratiem and say that it is an open secret that his relations with the Allied representatives left much to be desired.

M. Heratoll, Assistant Foreign Minister, takes over the Ministry, replacing M. Stuermer, who combined it with the premiership.

BRAVE BOY SCOUTS ON BRITTANNIC.

November 25, 7 40 x.m. Seventeen English boy scouts on the Britannic behaved most heroically. One waited calmly at the door of an officer collecting documents, another helped to launch the borts, and another voluntarily descended three decks to get water for an officer. When he returned he found the boat had been ordered off; but the officers who were last aboard took bêm on their boat.

ZEPPELIN WRECKED ON MAIDEN VOYAGE, November 25, 12.50 p.m. Beuter's correspondent at Amsterdam states that travel- lers from Munich report that a Zeppelin was completely wrecked in a storm on 21st inat, while on ber maiden voyage from Friedrichshaven to Wilhelmshaven, talling in a wood. There was one survivor of the crew of 28.

November 25, 1:45 p.m. Reuter's correspondent at Copenhagen states that the question of the sale of the Danish West Indies to the United States is to be decided by a referendum on December 14th. Danish people of both sexes will vote.

November 25, 1' 45 p.m. According to Benter's correspondent at: Washington, officials state that while the situation is delicate nothing can be done concerning the resumption of ruthless submarine warfare by Germany until all the evidence is gathered; but a severanos of diplomatic relations will follow any violation of German pledges.
