On' Season landing at different parts of the Town - but for getting alongside of and boarding vessels situate in different parts of the harbour - Now not only during the Gales prevailing in the Typhoon but in ordinary weather when a strong current is running it is utterly impossible to proceed from East Point or Wanchai to the Western or Central parts of the Town except by proceeding circuitously or in nautical phraseology by hugging the shore-
The same remarks apply to some persons proceeding from the latter parts to Causeway Bay and Wanchai. This is a fact well known to every mercantile man in the Colony.
The same difficulty is met with in boarding vessels lying at anchor off Causeway Bay or Wanchai. I approach vessels in a direct line from East Point or Wanchai in such weather as mentioned would be impossible. It is only by keeping along near the shore until in a line with the vessels and then by shooting across the current, that they can be approached. If therefore the Company are allowed to continue the Pier to the full intended length (1000 feet) without affording to the public the necessary means
