Wool and Woollen Goods. Not much comfort for those who are looking for lower prices. for wool is afforded by the results of the British and colonial auc tione, thinks a writer in the "New York Times," September 17. Even with the buyers of America- eliminated as compstitors, the prices have ruled high for all desirable sorts. Mill men in the United States are waiting for the announcement of a withdrawal of ' the embargo on wool, which will Great Britain and her Allies have” been met. The offerings at the London sale have not been as de- sireable as usual, which is shown by the fact that so many of them could not be disposed of and had to be withdrawo. Much of what · was taken brought prices higher than those prevailing in Ameica for the same kinds. There have been some quite notable sales of the domestic clip to the manifest profit of the sellers. In woollen goods the trade is not brisk,” this being hardly the time machinery is quite well occupied in the men's clothing and there has been no notable change during the last week. The outlook for the s s8KƏNİ reams, however, to be improving. More than this can be said of the women's wear branch of the trade, where business is moving along exceedingly well. This applies both to the dress goods and to the finished guments. In some- localities a disposition has boun shown toward larger purchases of. the materials rather than toward made-up goods. The use of mors and brighter colours also is in- dicated,
