Menure, Benjamin and Potts, in their share report dated September 22, state
Our market during the past week has been more sotive and there has been a fair amount of businese tranmoted. Contrary to expectations, the approaching Settlement has not had any weakening effect on stocks and the general tone is good, investment stocks being especially in strong demand.
In the North, Cottons continue about the same as the previous week, and are steady at current quotations. Rubbers both in Shanghai and Singapore have had a sharp advance, and the market close very strong. The price of raw material advanced to 2/5%. Langkate remAÏD the name, business having been done at Tiz. 254 up to 261.
Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have ruled very firm and scarcely any shares have come on the market. A salo at 8765 was reported and more shares could probably be pisos.
There has been a good demand for both Marine and Fire Insurance shares, but vary little business has resulted, Unions are enquired for at §920. Cantona at $400 and North Chinas at Tia. 155. Hongkong Firms have advanced to $390, at which price more shares can be placed, HoChina Firms are offering, which remain at their former quotation of $154:

In the shipping section there is not much change with the exception of Douginson, which have weakened a little. This is rather surprising considering the very satisfactory report which has just been issued by the Company; males have been made as low as $155, but close with buyers at this rate.
