£20,000 Stationery Saving. The Select Committee of the House of Commons, dealing with Parliamentary publicatiose, re- port that the Controller of the Stationery Office has impressed upon the various Departments the ni cessity for economy in the use of stationery and the demand for printing of forms. A saving of about £20,000 a year is anticipat ed in this respect. Reports of the varicae Departments have been considerably curtailed with a view to soonomy. It is stated by the Committee that the value of the journal of the Bouse of Commons would not be impaired if the archaic and formal language were abbreviated, thereby reducing the latour of compilation.

Australia's Non-Intoxicating.

Beer.

The Australian Cabinet is shortly to be asked to decide the standard of alcoholic strength permissible in "noc-intricating bear." Mr. Hall, Attorney-General, said that personally be is unable to any whether 2 per cent. or 3 per cent, should be the standard. It orse for him to declare the law, not to argue with people. The fact was that, as he told a recent temperance deputation, s hotel- keeper could open his premises at any hour during the prohibit- ed period, provided he did not serva intoxicating liquor. Tois was the law, and it bad been so laid down by the Crown Solicitor, and aubquently endorsed by Mr. Wade when he was Attorney- General.
