Much anx ety is entertained owing to th-absence of news about the steamer Heiyo-meru, 4,850 tons, which left Miike for Sing- apore on August 11th, with a full carro of coal. In ordinary cir cumstances the vessel would have reached her destination by the end of August at latest, but so far she has not been spoken. There have been two severe storms since her departure from Japan, and it is feared that she was caught in one of then and is lost.
