Suspension Bridge Collapse.
A wire suspension bridge, which had been constructed across the Totengawa, Nara-ken; collspeed during the opening ceremony. The accident occurred when many persona were as- sembled on the bridge for a photograph to be taken. The breaking of the bridge pre- cipitated them a distance of sixty feet into the river below, six be ing killed and thirty injured.

100 Shells a Minute. Prior to our advanos the village of Besentin-le-Grand had (says the Times correspondent at the front) been simply pulverised by our preliminary bombardment. 987,238 Old Age Pensions. Daring the year ending March, 1915, there were 160,370 claims made for Old-age Pensions, of which 108,058 were made in England. On the last Friday in March no fewer than 987,238 persons drew the pension, and with the exception of some 43,000 all were receiving the fall 58. This is the highest number re- corded, the total having gradually risea sinca 1909, when there were only 847,494 recipients. Women pensioners exceeded men by near- ly two to one-vis., 617,840 women, against 389,398 men. There were 70,758 recipients in Londen, 21,422 men and 48,816 women, and the cost WAI £897,908.
