Sicce our last report, dated the 18th instant, the local market has ruled quiet, and speculative stocks have changed bands at farther AOONDRAY & Co., SINGA reduced rales. At the close there is, however, again more strength, and there are signs of a better demand. The Shanghai market remains FORE Mesra, BORNEO Co. practically nuchanged, except for rubbers which have improved all round, and are in good demand at advancing rates. Shanghai Decks LTD: GLASGOW-Mesars, A.E. THE have also improved to a baying quotation of Tis. 701, sales being reported at that rate. Cottons are unchanged, but firm; Ewo are in BROWN, MCFARLANE & CO. LTD. demand at Tin. 145, and Kungyike have changed hands at Tla. 131, at which more shares could be placed.
Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have been sold at $740 and continue in demand.
Both Marine and Fire Insurance shares remain steady with very little business reported.

In the shipping section, Douglasse have been very firm all the week with buyers at $133 and are considerably stronger as we close-No. 2, Pedder Street, Hongkong. sales having been made at $134, $134; and $135. Deferred Indon, after ruling mask, having touched as low as $124, are again in good demand and have bayers at 8126. There is also a good enquiry for them forward, Star Ferries, in spite of the price advancing, bare been difficult to obtain and close with bayers at $285. Hongkong, Canton and Macao Steamboats are dull with sellera at $224.
