Majesty's gracious confirmation and approval

As is pointed out in the Acting Attorney General's Report, which I enclose, the Ordinance remedies an anomaly which crept into previous legislation on the subject of Juries...

But the more important feature is undoubtedly the provisions by which the Crown on one side and the Defendants on the other can ensure that a serious case is being tried by the most intelligent Jury which can be empanelled. In this instance, I find myself following in the wake of the older Colony below, where a similar enactment appears to have been passed last year, and to have met the Queen's approval.

There was some opposition here to the Ordinance, especially from the Unofficial Members, but no arguments being brought forward against the measure, it was passed with my entire concurrence.

I have the honor to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient humble Servant,

[illegible: likely "Wm"] Nelly, Governor.
