The foreign trade of Japan for the Inst decade of January is returned at T28,383,000 in ex ports and 121,799,000 in imports, the farmer axseeding the latter to the extent of Y6,581,000.

The year opens with no falling off in the demand for steel. Naturally, the steal companies áre booking lees businem" than in November, but this is due to the fact that they are unable to soce på all the business offared on socsant- of over-sold conditions. Kaing grass, be it noted, grows wild which ca- parto is to a large extent, cultivar- ed, and chiedy outside the Em- pire. The London Times,writer's estimate of 12,000,000 tons of bamboo pulp per annum is a very moderate one. One interested in the project of turning Kaing grass into pulp thinks that 10,000 tens per month of Kaing grass could be exported.
