Japanese Matches.
The export of matches from Japan increased, considerably în 1915, the total number of pack area axported for the year being 717,851, which is 121,534 more than in 1914. The whole of the shipments came from Kobe and Osaka, those two ports shipping 580,747 and 136,904 packages increased respectively. This
trade is no doubt due to the war, such countries as Indis, the Philippines, the south sea islands importing the Japanese product when European supplies were cut of Japan has opened new mar kets for her matches in Australia, and France. Over a third of the total export of matches went to India, Calcutta and Bombay 291,465 aking together packages, an increase of 115- 039 over the figures for 1914 Rangoon sock 46,382 packages, an increase of 12,812 Singapore, Java, and Siam took 34,221, 25. 181, and 11,633 packages, an in orease of 4,125, 1,310, and 551 packages respectively. Preliminary estimates of the Geological Survey on the produc tion of crude petroleum in 1915, which are to be used in connec tion with the Federal inquiry into b the cause of advancing gasolere b. prices, were made public today. by Mr. Lane and indicate a increase of about two million barrels over last year's output which, with a total production of ̧b. abont 200,000,000 barrels, was ab. record breaker.
